Captain Marvel, R Kelly, How to Shop Cruelty-Free & Other News
Take the reins.
It's already March and the pressure to have my life together is full on. Remember it's okay to not have everything figured out.
Hello and welcome to my latest project, a fortnightly newsletter! I love keeping up to date with what’s happening, expanding my world view and listening to interesting content. I absorb a lot of content anyway so I asked you guys in an Instagram Poll if you’d like reading, listening and watching recommendations, the overwhelming answer was yes!
My newsletter aims to bring you topics to read and think about smartly. Cut through the fluff on social media and catch up with stories that didn’t show up in your news feed.
Watch: Captain Marvel
I’m going back to the cinema to watch it again. I found it to be a much deeper storyline than I expected. One of manipulation, self-discovery and standing up for what you believe in. I loved how the other characters besides Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) had interesting backgrounds of their own. I want to see their stories! Of course, I was worried the movie would be cliche. It quickly evolved into so much more than the basic “I can do anything” storyline that we often see in the few female-led movies. Let’s not forget that the main character is blonde and Caucasian. I hope we can see Marvel develop more female-led movies and address inclusivity and representation.
*I was invited to the premiere.
News:
A strange and untimely speech by ScoMo on International Women's Day.
Watch the HBO program ‘Leaving Neverland’ on Michael Jackson's alleged child abuse. Available to watch in Australia on TenPlay. It’s a two-part series.
“Labor Just Promised To Provide Free Abortions If Elected. Here’s Why That’s So Important.”
App: Waze
I’m always looking for apps that save me time! I used to be a Google Maps kinda girl but over the last year, I’ve stuck with Waze. It’s a navigation app but allows it’s users to contribute to it. People can log when there’s heavy traffic, hazards, road works and police. The app blips when you’ve nudged over the speed limit if there’s a fuel stop on your journey and lets you know when there’s a red light camera. I have found it’s made me really aware of my driving. Plus you get to choose an adorable avatar, that’s what sucked me in.

Podcast: Beck Wadworth for Offline by Alison Rice.
She’s the founder of An Organised Life and an influencer I’ve always admired, Beck Wadworthshares her reality. I enjoy listening to how other women realistically start their own businesses from a side-hustle. Beck seems down to earth, very practical and humble while giving excellent and reasonable advice on the podcast. I wish Beck was able to tell a bit more of her story. Sometimes I feel as though Alison injects herself a bit much, but I guess that comes with the conversational aspect of this podcast.

Article: The Cut - All the Criminal Charges and Lawsuits R. Kelly Faces
You might’ve heard the ignition singer is in hot water after being a sexual predator. After flying under the radar for a pretty long time, he has another court date on March 13. Here’s a quick recap of what Kelly is currently facing.
Two alleged victims of R. Kelly sat with Gayle King of CBS News on 7 March. Azriel Clary and Joycelyn Savage are R. Kelly's current girlfriends. Stating that they're in healthy relationships with him, their parents have tried to extort Kelly.
Article: The Strategist - Do Blue-Light-Blocking Glasses Actually Do Anything?
I bought blue-light glasses because I heard they were good for protecting strained eyes against the blue screen light. An optometrist once told me “Just don’t forget to blink”. Now I’m thinking that free advice was probably more useful than the $185 lenses I paid for. This article talks about it matter of factly, I don’t recommend their sales-ey sponsored items but I just like what the ophthalmologist said.

Are you thinking about starting to shop cruelty-free but don't know where to start? Looking for cruelty-free makeup and skincare brands isn’t always easy. Here are a few tips and advice on the brands I’ve used before.

Quick Note: Captain Marvel was created with intentions of being an icon of equality, a symbol of the ambitious career-driven and powerful woman. Her name was previously Ms Marvel in the original comics, pointing to a more profound significance. The ambiguous salutation of 'Ms' moved away from ‘Mrs' and 'Miss' as they were more suggestive of her status as a woman.
What to shop:
You know the drill. These are my favourite picks from The Iconic 40% off exclusives sale. I wish there was a button that said “add immediately to wardrobe” instead of “add to cart”. There are a few different items in this post, mostly pieces that I know are easy to mix and match with other things that might already be in your wardrobe!
