Kylie Cosmetics Velvet Lip Kits
When it comes to the world of beauty, few names carry as much influence as Kylie Cosmetics. With the buzz surrounding the Kylie Lip Kits since they were released at the end of 2015 (Hello, King Kylie era), I admit that I have always approached her products with a hint of uncertainty. It’s hard to know whether a celebrity brand really has quality products in the line, until you’ve tried for yourself.
Controversy and mixed opinions have always surrounded the brand, leaving me wondering if the products would truly live up to the hype. I have tried a number of the Velvet Lip Kits recently so I’ll be writing about my own personal experience and whether I believe that these lip kits could just be a social media sensation.
Shade Range
Let’s start with the shade range. The Kylie Cosmetics Velvet Lip Kit collection offers a kaleidoscope of shades, and somehow, they keep coming out with new ones. From flirty pinks and the perfect nude, to daring reds and plum tones, there's a colour to match every brunch or night out. I do feel like they are becoming a little bit repetitive recently, there’s only so many lip colours that can exist!
Texture and Formula
Say goodbye to heavy, drying matte products and hello to the light formula of the Velvet Lip Kits. These lipsticks have a rich, velvety pigmentation in a single swipe. The formula strikes the perfect balance between a stunning matte finish and a comfortable, weightless feel. I didn’t feel dry at all when I was wearing these, I even forgot I was even wearing lipstick. The texture is smooth and it’s probably my favourite part about the Velvet Lip Kits!
Are the Kylie Lip Kits Long Lasting?
We’re busy and we need lipsticks that keep up with us. I found these lipsticks to stay most of the day, probably could do with one reapplication in an 8 hour stretch, just to keep it fresh. I haven’t come across many lipsticks that make it all day long. In saying that, the matte finish helps prevent any smudging or feathering, ensuring that your lip colour remains flawless from morning coffee runs mid-afternoon work drinks. There is no need for constant touch-ups, but just the one or two throughout the day does keep it fresh!
Instagram-Worthy Packaging
Kylie Cosmetics have been all over social media, we all know what their packaging looks like! The classic drip style and the famous lips. I think the branding style has been the same since the initial launch? The Velvet Lip Kits come packaged in a slim box with a divider inside, the lip pencil on one half and the matching lipstick on the other. I have seen in the past there has been issues with the tubes but I haven’t had any issues with these, or any of my Kylie Lipsticks! I think they may have just been the super early ones way back.
Where to buy the Kylie Lip Kits in Australia
The Kylie Cosmetics Velvet Lip Kits are available on both the official Kylie Cosmetics website and Mecca. We always miss out on things in Australia so I love that these highly coveted lipsticks are available for us! While they might fall on the higher end of the price spectrum, the fun colours, celeb buzz and velvet finish make them worth a little splurge. I think if you’re looking to try one of the lip kits, the velvet ones are the best option.
The Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits were once the holy grail of lipsticks. I do enjoy wearing these, especially the velvet collection. I don’t know if they are worth the hype they were when they launched, but they are definitely still quite a nice lipstick and lip pencil combo. Overall, if there’s a shade that you love and suits you well, I would just get it! It’s pretty good for the price to get both products together without having to mix and match lip pencils and lipsticks from a bunch of different brands to find a match.
